This video is making the rounds on some non belly dance sites and you may be asked to comment on it by friends and family as a result. Its probably best from about 1:37- 2:24.
It is bought to you by Raqs Geek a Chicago based performance that first came to my attention when I saw a picture of a dancer in a very cool tardis skirt. This is from their website:-
“A long time ago in a galaxy far, far away… A Wookiee learned to bellydance. The TARDIS discovered fan veils. Conan the Barbarian threw fire at Cylons, strange creatures jumped on Tetris blocks, and a Klingon challenged a Starfleet officer to a duel. A cast of performers from Read My Hips tribal bellydance and the Chicago Fire Tribe showcase original takes on their favorite geek subjects. One part art, two parts comedy, and three parts sexy, Raks Geek is alternately silly, beautiful, and seductive. These aren’t the droids you’re looking for.”Suffice to say that traditionalists will hate this. It is very hard on the ears too – clearly I need to take a Klingon music appreciation class! It did make me laugh though so I thought I would share. Plus, the wookie can really dance! I feel I also need to say that my previous post on body hair was aimed at humans and not wookies……..
What do you think? Do you like crazy fusion ideas?

One of my girlfriends posted this on her facebook page. I still have know idea how to respond to it.
The nerdgirl in me wants to laugh histerically, but it makes me cringe a little. I guess it kinda reminds me of the Star Wars Holiday Special.

That’s kinda how I feel – I laughed at first, nerdily rolled my eyes at the mixing of star wars and star trek universes, then found it a bit grating. I think it is meant to be light hearted though and they went to a lot of trouble with costumes etc, to make people laugh, so I am glad I watched it but wouldn’t want to watch it again!

You might appreciate her Klingon dance from that same show a bit more.
I give a lot more details about the genesis of the Wookiee song and bellydance here:

Thanks Jon! I appreciated the wookie dancing – just found the vocals particularly hard to cope with. Bit harsh for me.
However – ‘ask and you shall receive’, I did comment maybe I needed to take a klingon music appreciation class and after watching the clip you have posted, I have grown to appreciate Klingon music a little more. I liked the music in this more than the in the wookie clip I posted. I am glad someone did a sword dance as a klingon too, it is totally appropriate for the character. I only saw her do a bit of drum duo with the star fleet officer (in other raks geek clips on youtube).

Oh my gosh! That is the best thing I have seen in months! I laughed so hard. And I’m glad Jon shared the Klingon dancing too. Both of those videos are full of so much WIN.
