Biodegradable glitter? It's really a thing!

Writer's picture: Jade BellyDanceJade BellyDance

I had honestly never given glitter much thought in terms of its impact on the environment. I had wondered about its safety and potential toxicity given it can stick to the skin or scalp for such long periods of time and be hard to remove; but beyond that simple pondering, glitter has simply been glitter.

Now I find out that not all glitter is created equal, there is now biodegradable glitter available called Bioglitz!

"REGULAR GLITTER IS PETROLEUM-BASED PLASTIC COATED IN ALUMINUM WHICH PERSISTS IN THE ENVIRONMENT FOR HUNDREDS OF YEARS.

BEING SO FINE & FLEETING, THERE IS NO WAY TO RECYCLE NOR PREVENT IT FROM ENTERING WATERWAYS & DISRUPTING MARINE LIFE AS WELL AS BIRDS, INSECTS AND THE HUMAN FOOD CHAIN.

SADLY, NORMAL GLITTER IS COMPARABLE TO MICROBEADS.

WITH MILLIONS OF POUNDS OF GLITTER BEING SOLD ANNUALLY, WE CAN'T CONTINUE TO SUPPORT SUCH WASTE, SO, WE'VE DEVELOPED A NEW PLANT BASED BIODEGRADABLE GLITTER."

I hope at some point to post a review of this product but I thought I would let my eco -minded dance buddies know there is a biodegradable, compostable, no GMO, non animal testing product to try.
